School & Community Gardens
School gardens are a wonderful way to bring the lessons of the natural world alive for students. Many schools in California are creating school gardens to use for science-based education and for outdoor, hands-on educational opportunities. There are many different ways school gardens are used in schools and, in many cases, they can be challenging to keep up without the help of volunteers. The Master Gardeners of Placer County are here to help you with your school garden but they cannot take care of the garden for you. They can offer you guidance on design, planting, pest management and they can directly participate in educational activities. Many Master Gardeners volunteer in school gardens throughout Placer County, educating students about plants, food and the natural world.
